New York, the “Empire State” and one of the 13 Colonies, is located in the Northeastern region of the United States. This historic and diverse state makes both a wonderful place to visit and live.

New York’s known history spans as far back as the 16th century, with Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano entering New York Bay and visiting the tip of present-day Manhattan and Long Island. The 18th century brought the American Revolution, a third of which was fought on New York soil. Prosperity then came to New York, and the American Civil War followed. New York gave strong support for the Union forces with finances, soldiers, and supplies. New York became a hub for immigrants who entered the country through Ellis Island, to which more than 100 million Americans can trace their ancestors.
